Ronnie Leigh
Singer Ronnie Leigh has been called "one of the finest song stylists working in jazz today" by Syracuse Jazzfest founder and director, Frank Malfitano. The versatile, four-time Syracuse Area Music Award-winner has fans from Seattle, Washington to the famed Q-Bar in Istanbul, Turkey. Ronnie has recorded with Cabo Frio on Zebra/MCA Records, and with Larry Arlotta on Spirit Jazz. He's shared the stage with Pat Metheny, the Yellowjackets, David Benoit, Special EFX, Spyro Gyra, David Sanborn, Tom Scott, Etta Jones, Jon Hendricks, and Chuck Mangione, as well as the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. Ronnie has also toured with The Drifters, and is currently the director of Syracuse University's vocal jazz ensemble, Windjammer.
Travis Newton
Conductor and violinist Travis Newton is thrilled to return as guest conductor of the SSO, having performed and conducted more than 500 performances of Broadway musicals across the U.S. and Canada. Highlights include productions of Cameron Mackintosh’s Oliver! and the U.S. National Tour of Fiddler on the Roof, for which he served as the violin soloist. Travis has also conducted numerous regional productions, including Big River, Into the Woods, The Last Five Years, Songs for a New World, and Beauty and the Beast. Also an experienced administrator, Travis has served in various capacities with the SSO and is currently interim Director of Music at Le Moyne College, where he serves as director of the Le Moyne College Chamber Orchestra.
About the SSO
Founded in 1961, the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 50th Golden Anniversary in 2010-2011. During its 34-week season, the 77-member Syracuse Symphony Orchestra performs for more than 200,000 audience members with approximately 200 full-orchestra and ensemble concerts in 17 counties throughout New York State. The SSO, led by conducting staff of international caliber, has performed five concerts at Carnegie Hall throughout its history and was presented with the NYS Governor's Arts Award in 1999.
